The Kakegawa Tea Promotion Association hosts the T-1 Grand Prix, which has been held 15 times to date.
This is a tea competition for elementary school students, where participants compete in tea knowledge and brewing techniques to determine the champion of Japanese tea.
The event was conceived by the city of Kakegawa with the aim of “helping more people learn about delicious Japanese tea and deepening their understanding of health, family togetherness, and the spirit of hospitality.”
The competition consists of three tea-related events: a tea quiz, a tea variety identification challenge, and a tea brewing skills assessment, with participants competing for the highest total score.
Applications are being accepted through public announcements and LINE.
The “T” in T-1 Grand Prix is derived from the English word for tea, “tea.”
